Why a blog...

I decided to create this site for my colleagues, friends, and family members that travel to Hilton Head Island, SC. I found that I was sending enormous emails every time I found someone headed to the island. The posts and links are to some of my favorites on the island or within an hour or so of the island. Plus, we are doing this really cool program at work (The Columbus Metropolitan Library) called Learn & Play @ CML. Enjoy!

Turtles

My brother and sister-in-law work with conserving the sea turtles that call Hilton Head Island (HHI) home. The last time I visited HHI I was able to go on Turtle Patrol. Which is basically looking to see if a turtle nested on the beach the previous evening and marking the nests so the public (aka us stupid tourists because HHI residents know all about the turtles) leaves them alone. If you want to learn more about the HHI Turtles check out Coastal Discovery page. Also, a tidbit I learned... if on the beach at night and want to take a flash light, color the lense with a red sharpie. Red light is the least harmful to any sea/beach life you may come across. (My dad took the picture of the turtle. She had just nested on HHI in May 2008.)
